Write honestly

The best submissions are specific and unflattering. Nobody needs another story where the writer behaved well. Write the version with the embarrassing detail still in it.

Protect other people

Your story usually involves someone who did not choose to be written about. Change names and identifying details. Do not publish anyone else’s address, workplace, phone number, or medical information. Do not settle a score here.

If a story reads as an attempt to identify or punish a specific real person, we will decline it.

Adults only, always

Every person in a story involving desire or intimacy must be an adult. This is not negotiable, there are no exceptions for fiction, flashback, or ambiguity, and accounts that test it are removed permanently and reported where the law requires.

Not explicit

We publish stories about desire. We do not publish graphic sexual description. If a scene exists mainly to arouse rather than to be read, it belongs somewhere else. Restraint tends to produce better writing anyway.

In the comments

People post here about affairs, grief, addiction, and things they have never told anyone. Respond as you would to a person who has just said something difficult out loud.

• No harassment, threats, or contempt.
• No hate directed at anyone for who they are.
• No speculation about the identity of an anonymous writer. Attempting to identify one is grounds for removal.
• No spam, promotion, or links to other sites without reason.

If something is wrong

Use report content. A person reads every report. You do not need an account to send one.

What we do about it

Depending on what happened: a note, an edit, removal of the content, suspension, or a permanent ban. Content that is illegal is removed and referred to the relevant authorities. We keep records of moderation decisions so that they can be reviewed.
