Who may use this site

The Human Diary is written for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account or submit a story. Some stories deal with desire, grief, and other adult subjects.

Our stories

Official stories are fiction unless explicitly stated otherwise. Any resemblance to real people is coincidental. They are the property of The Human Diary and may not be republished elsewhere without permission. Quoting a short passage with a link back is welcome.

Your stories

You keep the copyright to anything you submit. By submitting, you give us permission to publish it on this site, to edit it lightly for clarity and length, and to keep it in the archive.

You confirm the work is yours. Do not send us something you found elsewhere, and do not send us someone else’s private information presented as your own story.

You may ask us to remove your story at any time and we will, though cached copies elsewhere on the internet are outside our control.

Review

Nothing you submit publishes automatically. A person reads it first. We may decline a submission, ask for changes, or publish it without ads. We are not obliged to explain a decision, though we usually will.

Accounts

Keep your password to yourself. Tell us if you think someone else has access. We may suspend an account that breaks the community guidelines, and we will remove content that breaks the content policy.

What this site is not

It is not a medical or psychological service. Nothing here is a diagnosis, and the “What are you feeling?” tool returns possibilities rather than assessments. If you are struggling, please speak to a doctor or a helpline rather than a short story.

Availability

We publish daily and intend to keep doing so, but this is a small operation. We make no guarantee of uninterrupted service and are not liable for losses arising from the site being unavailable.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it.
