How to report

Email report@thehumandiary.com with the link to the story or comment and a sentence about what is wrong. That is enough — you do not need to quote policy at us.

An in-page report button is coming. Until it exists, email is the route that actually reaches a moderator, so it is the one we are publishing.

Report anything that is

• Sexual content involving anyone under 18, or written to suggest it.
• Sexually explicit, rather than about desire.
• Harassment, threats, or hatred aimed at a person or group.
• Encouraging self-harm, suicide, or violence.
• Someone’s private information — a real name, address, workplace, or medical detail.
• An attempt to identify the writer of an anonymous story.
• Copied from somewhere else.
• Spam, scams, or malicious links.
• Illegal.

Urgent reports

Put URGENT in the subject line for anything involving a minor, an immediate threat to someone’s safety, or illegal content. These are looked at first.

If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services rather than us. We cannot respond at that speed.

What happens next

1. A moderator reads the report, usually within two working days.
2. The content may be removed, edited, hidden pending review, or left in place.
3. The account behind it may be warned, suspended, or permanently removed.
4. We record the decision, so patterns and repeat reports are visible.

We will tell you the outcome if you give us an address to reply to. We will not tell you what action was taken against another person’s account.

If you are the writer

If your story was removed and you think that was wrong, reply and say so. A different person will look at it. We get things wrong and would rather hear about it.
