Specifically: Dermot had seen Aoife in that coat approximately four hundred times, and on a Tuesday in October he saw her in it once more, standing outside the chip shop arguing with someone on the phone about a delivery, and something in the back of his head said, quite clearly and in his own voice, oh, she's beautiful.
He stood on the far pavement for a moment, genuinely shaken, in the manner of a man who has discovered a second staircase in his own house.
