The affair would have been easier.

What happened was this.
They were at a work thing of Adam's. A woman came over, and Adam introduced her — "this is Freya" — and then turned to Freya and said, "This is Nadia, she runs the Bristol office."
And Freya said something pleasant, and Nadia said something pleasant, and Nadia went away.
